The Malecón footbridge crosses the river from the Plano de San Francisco to the Plaza de la Ciencia, which takes its name from the Science and Water Museum, situated in one of the huge cisterns which were used to hold the city’s water supplies. The museum specialises in displays to do with water, the solar system and interactive exhibits aimed at the young. There is also a children’s planetarium there.
The Malecón walk commences by passing along side the delightful Botanical Garden and takes you into the surrounding market garden area. It is about 3 metres above ground level which allows you to admire the panoramic views of the city and surrounding countryside.

The Cathedral built between the 14th and 18th centuries, has a Baroque façade and a 96 metre tower whose majestic beauty can be seen high above the city from miles around. Inside the temple we can admire a good sample of Gothic art.
The Sierra Espuna National Park - Murcia's largest forest and an area of outstanding natural beauty. The beauty and stature of this park is mainly due to the work and reforestation campaigns undertaken over the years.
Aledo, located at the foot of the Sierra Espuna National Park, makes this the perfect place for nature lovers to visit and enjoy. It is rich in ceramic and pottery making tradition and maintains many of the local natural resourses and old arts.
During the Islamic period Aledo was converted into a fortress until the 12th century when it was taken by troops led by Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar (better known as "El Cid").
Among the historical buildings and monuments, look out for the 11th Century Calahorra Tower, La Picota which was once used as a jail and the place of execution for outlaws. The Baroque works of art and sculptures by Salzillo are also on show through out this village in particular in the Church of Santa Maria.
